I haven’t quite made up my mind how I feel about the whole NSA phone data collection issue.
On the surface it feels like a borderline privacy issue, but I don’t see where there is anything illegal about it—so long as the government doesn’t force phone companies to turn over the records without a warrant.
Otherwise, they’re the phone companies’ records. They can do what they want with them. It’s no different than any other company selling your info to telemarketers/spammers.
When Kris first heard about this last night she thought it was no big deal, saying, “Didn’t people figure they were doing this already?”
So I guess it sounds like I’m in the “no big deal” camp after all. If it’s within the law, which this seems like it is, and it keeps planes from falling out of the sky, then I guess I’m okay with it.

I'm not going begin to argue with you about this because I will become too angry. Bottom line is you trust that the government will follow the law...I don't trust the government at all.
This is not like citibank buying a subscription list from SI. Citibank doesn’t control the laws of this country. Taking away our privacy is just another right they are taking away. Why do we have laws so I can't go to the hospital and see your medical history? It's to protect your privacy and so I can't do any funny stuff with it. Now you think the Government won't do any funny stuff with it? Puleeeeze...Richard Nixon proved that wrong in the 70's.
What will they take away next...Freedom of protest? Freedom of Religion? Will they be able to put video cameras in your house so they know if you ever smoke pot? Or god-forbid freedom of the press (we know how you will view in on that). Admendment IV of the Bill of Rights says the following: The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.
When can we compare what they are doing to what the communist did to Russian people for over 40 years?
