I just read this article about one family's horrible experience with cyberbullying. It's extremely moving and makes me dread the thought of my kids going to middle school.

Brutal, I can't imagine what this guy is going through...I'll never forget when I was a kid, my brother was getting bullied, big time, by an older and bigger kid at the bus stop. Finally my father had enough and one morning while he was driving down the street on the way to work (with Sean and I in the car) he saw the bully...my dad slamed on the breaks got out of the VW bug and pointed at the kid and (with a psycho look on his face) yelled "don't you ever bully Sean again". From the expression on his face, I thought the kid was going to pee in his paints. My father didn't touch or threaten the kid but he scared the crap out of him. Needless to say the kid never bullied or talked to my brother again.
Being a stepparent of a middle school (and high schooler) I can attest that the cyber-culture of kids these days is really that frightening.
Both kids have MySpace and IM accounts. We try to keep tabs to make sure nothing bad is happening, but then you get accused of "spying" when you are only trying to keep touch and protect.
We face some undaunting tasks as parents in this day and age unfortunately.
Ahhh yes...I remember when I accused my parents of spying. I think my mom's answer was something like: Yep, I am spying on you and there is nothing you can do about it.
I also remember telling my parents "you don't trust me". And their response was something like: Yep, you are right we don't trust you.
