Not So Evil Empire

The Yankees will donate $1 million in proceeds from their opening night game against the Red Sox Sunday, April 3 to tsunami relief. The game will be televised nationally (I assume on ESPN).

Bud Selig had some kind words for the team everyone loves to hate:

The Yankees will take advantage of the spotlight game to donate $1 million of the proceeds to relief efforts in behalf of the devastating tsunami in South Asia.

Commissioner Bud Selig expressed his gratitude for the Yankees' gesture.

"Major League Baseball has always appreciated the Yankees' generosity and their commitment to those in need," Selig said. "This reaction to the tsunami disaster is in keeping with their long history of good works. On behalf of baseball, I am grateful to George Steinbrenner and the New York Yankees for this wonderful gesture."
