Manny keeps on being Manny

With the Red Sox one game away from losing the ALCS, here's what Boston outfielder Manny Ramirez has to say about the possibility of elimination:
"It doesn't happen, so who cares? There's always next year. It's not like it's the end of the world."

So Sox fans, are you outraged? Or are you just shrugging this off as "Manny being Manny?"

Personally, I would find a public somment like that unacceptable.

It was the hot topic on Mike & Mike this morning, with lots of people chiming in. Reggie Jackson didn't have a problem with it. Wade Boggs hopes the team pulled him aside to give him talking to.

I'm not outraged at all...In the series, he is hitting 462 with 2 homeruns...You can't say he's not trying.

Let's get to the big picture, it's baseball...a game, not reality. Yes, we all bust on each others team (I've been known to do that from time to time) and I would love to ee the Sox win. But if they don't, yes, I would feel a little bummed for about an hour.

But remember...it is just a game.

In addition, it's a good lesson to teach kids:
1. Try your hardest. As I said above,in the series, he is hitting 462 with 2 homeruns...You can't say he's not trying.
2. But if you lose, "who cares? There's always next year. It's not like it's the end of the world."

Pre-2004, I would have been outraged.

Post-2004, eh, not so much. I kind of shrug it off as Manny-being-no-speaka-no-english-so-good-Manny. (And for being a doofus-head)

Honestly, I don't think he meant it the way it came out. I think he meant more of a "Hey, I'm relaxed. What happens happens and I'm going to have fun doing it."

Like Aaron said, he's been a machine for the playoffs. Can't blame him for not trying.

Cleveland is outplaying us. I tip my hat to them and won't feel too bad losing this to them, should that happen. Hopefully it won't but I'm strangely "okay" with losing to the Indians as opposed to (cough cough) OTHER teams. :)

Honestly, I was a bit irked when I heard he said that. Granted, he is trying, but that's not the attitude to have in competitive sports I believe. But that's just the Sox fan in me going crazy. But after having some time to cool off a bit, I can see what aaron is saying. As long as he's trying, I won't be too mad I guess. (Just disappointed.)
