Popup problems

My computer at home is being plagued by the WinFixer popup ads.  I have no idea how I picked up this annoying adware and I can’t get rid of it.  I’m running both Microsoft AntiSpyware and Ad-Aware – neither of which seems to have any effect.

Anyone out there know how to get rid of it?  Please?!?

  1. Yep - you've got spyware alright.

I would download SpyBot - Search and Destroy...run that. It's pretty good to run along with Ad-Aware.

Next, download and run HijackThis! (don't have a link for it, sorry). It will show all of the changes to your registry. Show the log to knowledgable computer type or go to the Ad-Aware tech help board. They can tell you what should be there and what shouldn't. You can delete the files through HiJackThis! so be careful.

Email me if you have questions.

  2. The problem is Winfixer can not be removed with either Ad-Aware or Spybot S&D. The company that makes Winfixer should be sued. THIS is defintely a good cause for a class action suit. This virus called Winfixer supposedly fixes problems and removes computer pests, yet that is exactly what it's aggresive ads are. They hijack your computer, browser, and slow down your system. I have had my online college classes interupted in the middle of a discussion with my professor because of this annoying crap. Any attorneys out there interested in sueing these criminal idiots please PLEASE contact me. rj@dreamwc.com These people and others like them need to be stopped! The government is so busy trying to completely remove any online privacy we all have while the real criminals like these "legally run" companies are left completely alone to do their bidding. Try searching the web about Winfixer and see it is now the largest problem on the net, even more so than any viri out there. This company even has redirect pages that on a search say things like "remove annoying Winfixer pop-ups" and when clicked take you directly to their virus pages. Yes, I call this a virus...

This didn't keep the virus away for me personally but did for others. If it doesn't work for you, you can do the following.

    1. Download Hijack This! from www.majorgeeks.com Run and save the log file. Cut and paste the logfile here on your blog. Well need info off of it for step 2

    2. Download Vundofix.exe from http://www.atribune.org/downloads/vundofix.exe

DO NOT RUN THE VUNDOFIX UNTIL YOU GET THE CHANGES NECESSARY FROM THE HIJACK THIS LOG. I'll check back in a day or so to see if you posted the HJ log and to give you the codes to run the vundofix.exe

Hope this helps.. If you don't want to wait for me to reply e-mail me the log (njloser@hotmail.com) and i'll give you the info to run the vundofix
